  15. <p>     DIED. Richard Overholt, 88, chest surgeon and pioneer in the
  16. U.S. antismoking crusade; in Boston. In the early 1930s, while
  17. operating on tuberculosis patients, Overholt noticed that the
  18. lungs of nonsmokers recovered faster than those of smokers.
  19. When he shared his finding with other doctors in 1934, Overholt
  20. recalled, "They thought I was crazy. I could see so much
  21. evidence, and no one would listen."
